| Inga | The distillery was built by James Buchanan & Co at Keith in 1898 and its make is uncommon, available only from independent bottlers. This cask is the colour of Chardonnay and the first nose is somewhat closed and prickly, with a buttery, raw pastry aroma. When water is added, the pastry becomes part-cooked and made into a tart with greengages; a fresh, Speyside-estery nose, but difficult to disentangle individual aromas within this complex. The greengages come through in the flavour, as if covered with sweet syrup, for the primary taste is sweet then sour, with a fresh fruit-cocktail aftertaste and perhaps a trace of liquorice (this is more apparent when tasted at natural strength). A light-weight but refreshing malt for a bright day. |
