Staff Tasting Notes
Nose: Apple, pear, banana, tangerine. Grapefruits too. Toffee. Slightly dusty, like an Aberlour. Cinnamon. Touch of nail varnish remover. Rich and ripe. Water accentuates the toffee and eliminates the acetone. Still very ripe, with kiwi fruits added into the mix.
Palate: Apple, banana, cinnamon, fresh coriander. Lime cordial. Richness (and nail varnish remover) follow through. Finish has bitter notes and raisin/sultana notes fighting each other, with neither winning. Water brings out the pear and dilutes the cordial. Not a desperately long finish but easy enough. Smoky notes at the back of the mouth come through with water too.
Overall: Good stuff, reminiscent of a good Glen Garioch.

The Gathering 2009
The dram you enjoy from this bottle commemorates the greatest gathering of the clans ever witnessed. 2009 will be remembered as a very special year, when Scotland welcomed home thousands of people from around the world, many with ancient ties to this land. The Gathering 2009 whisky was selected to ensure that this remarkable celebration of Scotland’s history and culture can be enjoyed with friends and family wherever they may be.
The whisky in this bottle was distilled on 17th November 1983 at the Linkwood distillery on the outskirts of Elgin. An exemplary Speyside whisky, it has a sweet, fruity, floral character and complex maturity from 100 seasons spent in oak, soaking in the extremities of the Scottish weather. Unusually for such an old whisky it is surprisingly vibrant and has a freshness which suits summer drinking, hence its selection as the official whisky of The Gathering 2009.
Only 625 bottles exist, the result of a vatting of two casks which were selected by and bottled for Royal Mile Whiskies in June 2009.
