| Inga | The distillery is situated just outside Nairn and in 1835 was grant a royal warrant by William IV. A weighty look and an attractive old gold or amber hue promise a sensual and exotic experience. To start the nose is a little prickly and musty. Then the complexity of this malt appears - oranges, lemons, a little oil or wax, honey, sponge cake and a distinct dry spiciness, almost incense like. This whisky is highly appealing to the senses. A little water opens these flavours, releasing tropical fruits; pineapples, melon, jak fruit. Custard cream biscuits, liquorice and a toasted dry spiciness contribute to the complexity. The flavour is full and mouthfilling and delivers what the nose promises; fruitiness and spices not dissimilar to an aged bourbon, with a creamy and spicy finish. Water helps soften the flavour towards Turkish delight with a hint of ginger. This is a classy whisky that carries enough range and complexity of flavour to satisfy even the most demanding of palates. |
